Audrey Anne Creighton opened her law firm in 2015 and is actively engaged in the private practice of law. Prior to retiring from the bench in 2015, she was sworn into the District Court of Maryland for Montgomery County in September 2010 and elevated to the Circuit Court for Montgomery County in 2014. She was appointed by Governor Martin O’Malley as the second Hispanic female judge in Montgomery County and the fourth Hispanic female judge in Maryland. Before her judicial appointment, Judge Creighton served as an Assistant Public Defender in the Maryland Office of the Public Defender for Montgomery County. She was one of two bilingual Hispanic attorneys in the office handling felony cases. Through this role, Judge Creighton gained extensive litigation experience, which included trying approximately 100 jury trials and presiding over approximately twenty jury trials. Throughout more than twenty years as a criminal defense attorney, she has litigated virtually every type of criminal case, including numerous homicide cases.

Audrey Creighton possesses extensive legal experience. She earned her Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from the University of Baltimore School of Law in 1986. While at the University of Baltimore School of Law, she served as an editor for the Law Forum journal, published legal articles, and received awards for her legal writing. Subsequently, she clerked for the Honorable Richard P. Gilbert, Chief Judge of the Maryland Court of Special Appeals. Following her clerkship, Audrey Creighton was an associate at the law firm of Rabineau & Peregoff in Baltimore City. Later, as an Assistant Attorney General for the State of Maryland, she argued cases before the Maryland Court of Appeals. Her next step was joining the Maryland Office of the Public Defender, where she served as one of the lead trial attorneys for 20 years.
Audrey Creighton served as the eleventh president of the Maryland Hispanic Bar Association (MHBA) from 2003 to 2004 and as a member of the MHBA Board of Directors for over a decade. In 2010, Audrey Creighton was honored with the MHBA Leadership Award. Additionally, Judge Creighton has served as treasurer of the Montgomery County Maryland Bar Foundation, Inc., and as a member of the Foundation’s Diversity Committee, working as a mentor in the School Pipeline Program. Judge Creighton has also held multiple leadership positions within the Bar Association of Montgomery County. She has served as treasurer, secretary, and on the Executive Committee. She has chaired the Specialty Bar Associations Committee and served as a mentor in the Bar Association of Montgomery County’s mentor/mentee program. Furthermore, Judge Creighton served on the Board of Directors for the Montgomery County Chapter of the Women’s Bar Association of Maryland and currently serves on the Maryland State Criminal Law Council.
